Mine

June 1st, 2011

The idea of hazel eyes staring into mine
Like they once had before
Is enough to make the hours slow
The realization of the past
And all that it contains
Is still enough to give me hope
No idea if you ever felt the same for me
But my mind has its own reality
And my heart beats to its own drum
I can’t be controlled
I can’t be abused
Trying to leave me broken and bruised
But I’m not
I just can’t be
Someone slipped out of my memories
The idea how I felt before
The lust, the temptation, the allure
You can’t leave my mind
I’m feeling so blind
Just give me some sign
Do you want to be mine?

Note: I’ve jumped around with my poetry, posting between recent and past. I had paused sharing from 2011 because I reached the poems where my ex-husband and I started dating again after we broke up in high school. Since our divorce, I never fully dealt with those feelings and honestly tried to suppress them. However, they still surfaced and made it into my writing from time to time. Last month I found out he passed away, and I’ve been sorting through a lot of emotions. This feels like the right time to pause my 2025 work and share some throwback content instead.

Rest in peace, Thomas (11/26/1991-08/08/2025)

2024 Concluded

Hello poetry lovers,

As another year comes to a close, I’m excited to share my annual recap with you all! First off, a huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of my poetic journey; whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just stumbled upon my blog. This little blog witnessed a 17% growth, jumping from 241 to 283 followers in the last year, and I appreciate every single one of you for reading, commenting, and supporting my work.

If you’re new here, welcome! Every year, I like to put together a recap; not just stats, but a glimpse into my world outside of poetry. Feel free to check out past updates and non-poetry posts under the “Personal” category.

Seven Years & Counting
It’s hard to believe I’ve been running this blog for seven years now, with a total of 428 posts accumulated! Time really flies when you’re pouring your heart into words.

This past year, I shared pieces from 2003, 2010, 2023, and the start of 2024. But the work I’m most proud of recently? My pentalogy:

Tortured Artists Yield Loss Over Remembrance

Part 1: Denial
Part 2: Anger
Part 3: Bargaining
Part 4: Depression
Part 5: Acceptance

I spent months crafting this, and I’m beyond grateful to finally have it out in the world. If you’ve read it, thank you for taking that emotional journey with me. There’s plenty more to come as I continue unraveling the rest of 2024. Here’s what the year looked like from my end:

Beyond The Blog
Outside of writing, I’ve kept myself busy with running and social leagues (softball, bowling, and cornhole have all made an appearance on my calendar this year). It’s been a fun way to stay active, make memories, and let my competitive side shine.

Recreation Photos
I always take the opportunity to recreate photos when possible! When both of my close friends got married a few months apart, we couldn’t help but take the same photo twice! I also included Halloween 2023 and 2024. Although not all the same guests were in attendance both years, we swapped one Gemini for another. We’re all twins, right?! Lastly, a selfie taken after my company’s holiday party in 2023 and again in 2024!

17 Concerts Later…
I might have gone a little overboard on concerts this year (but honestly, no regrets). From nostalgic throwbacks to fresh new sounds, live music fueled my soul in 2024. Here’s a list of almost every artist I saw this year:

2023 Concluded

Hello poetry lovers,

Wrapping things up for another season, I’m thrilled to share my end-of-year recap with all of you! First off, a shout-out to the wonderful readers who joined my poetic journey, witnessing a remarkable 21.1% growth from 199 to 241 followers in the past year.

To those new to my blog, welcome! I make it a tradition to provide an annual update, sharing not only statistics but also a comprehensive recap of my year. Feel free to explore my past updates and non-poetry-related posts housed under my “Personal” category.

Managing this website for over half a decade now, I’ve generated a total of 357 posts. A sincere thank you to all the readers who have supported my passion!

Reflecting on my posts from the last year, I shared content from 2009, 2022, and the start of 2023. Stay tuned as I unravel the remaining episodes of 2023 in the coming posts. Here are some of the ideas that made their way into my poems this year:

It was a busy year, marked by personal milestones such as finalizing my divorce, conquering my second half marathon, and actively engaging in softball and bowling leagues!

I must confess, I might have immersed myself a bit excessively in Spotify! The auditory journey encapsulated in my Spotify Wrapped serves as a reference for those intrigued by the soundtrack of my year. Undoubtedly, music holds an influence over my creative writing.

As we turn the page on the calendar, warm wishes for a Happy New Year to each and every one of you. May the upcoming days be filled with poetic verses of joy, laughter, and the crescendo of dreams fulfilled.

Here’s to another year of poetry, passion, and endless possibilities! Cheers to 2024!
